ANZLIC Metadata Profile
The Spatial Data Management Group endorsed the adoption of the ANZLIC Metadata Profile (version 1.1; August 2007) for use by Australian Government agencies in November 2007. This Profile is based on the International Metadata Standard ISO 19115, and replaces the previous Australian Government Metadata Profile (December 2004).
ANZLIC has developed a number of resources (listed below) that will facilitate the creation of ANZLIC-compliant metadata records, the conversion of ANZLIC Version 2 metadata records into the new format, and linkages between AGLS and ANZLIC metadata elements.
The ANZLIC Metadata Profile facilitates the consistent collection of metadata (or information about data) across Australia and New Zealand. The Profile defines a minimum set of elements that must be collected for spatial datasets and other resources; while at the same time providing the flexibility for agencies or communities of practice to extend the Profile and capture more information about a dataset or resource in order to meet their own specific business requirements.
The ANZLIC Metadata Profile Guidelines (version 1.0; November 2007) provides useful information about creating metadata records, including clarification on the definition of metadata elements and examples, and are to be read in conjunction with the ANZLIC Metadata Profile.
A metadata entry tool, based on GeoNetwork opensource, has also been developed. OSDM, with assistance from the Metadata Working Group, will also be planning activities in 2008 to assist Australian Government agencies implement this new Profile.
