Schedule
The Schedule of Australian Government Spatial Data ('Schedule') is a single authoritative source of information about spatial datasets available under the terms of the Australian Government Policy on Spatial Data Access and Pricing ('the Policy'). Spatial datasets eligible for listing on the Schedule must meet certain conditions, including:
- the spatial data are available at the marginal cost of transfer (e.g. free over the Internet or nominally $99 for a packaged product)
- a metadata record must accompany the spatial data
- the spatial data is free of restrictions on value-adding or third party transfer
- intellectual property is vested in the Commonwealth
- the data is distributed under a licence (such as the OSDM Licence) that acknowledges Commonwealth intellectual property and absolves the Commonwealth from any liability.
Auxiliary List
In 2004 Australian Government agencies identified that a number of datasets listed on the Schedule were available under similar conditions outlined in the Policy but subject to some constraints. For instance, a dataset may be a composite of data sourced from multiple jursdictions and the Commonwealth did not necessarily the sole owner of the intellectual property or have the authority to provide the data free of restrictions in accordance with the Policy.
As these datasets were not fully compliant with the Policy they were ineligible for listing on the Schedule. In response, a supplementary list to the Schedule (known as the Auxiliary List) was established.
Maintaining the Schedule and Auxiliary Lists
Governance
Responsibility for managing the Schedule has been delegated to the Spatial Data Management Group from the Spatial Data Policy Executive. OSDM maintains the Schedule and Auxiliary Lists under the guidance of the Schedule Working Group (SWG), which reports to the SDMG.
